Our Story
Our Story
The first time I stepped aboard a sailboat, something I hadn't planned for happened.
I was quiet. Genuinely, completely still. The motor turned off, the wind filled the sails, and everything that had been running in the background — stopped. For the first time in as long as I could remember, I was simply here.
It was the beginning of a change I didn’t know I needed.
The Water Finds You
Once the water had my attention, I couldn’t give it back. I started meeting skippers who crossed oceans, raced and circumnavigated Vancouver Island — people who carried a quiet authority that had nothing to do with title or rank. I wanted that mastery. So I studied, practiced, bought boats and logged miles. I stayed uncomfortable long enough for the discomfort to become competence, then confidence — and then a deep passion for helping others who, like me, came to the water looking for something more.
I understand what it means to come to boating as an adult. To make a genuine investment of money, time and trust. To bring aboard the people you love most. To pursue a dream and take a calculated risk.
You deserve an instructor who understands that completely. I haven’t forgotten what it’s like to be new at this — and I know how to meet people there.
The Coast. The Food. The Place.
I fell in love with it the way you fall in love with anything that is completely itself — slowly, then completely.
And once I did, I couldn’t keep it to myself.
This coast has a generosity to it — in its beauty, its people, its food, its waters. The more I explored it, the more I wanted to share it. To introduce people to what I had found. To open the door to a place that most visitors only glimpse from the highway or the ferry deck — and show them what it looks like from the water, from the dock, from the table of someone who has been growing food on this peninsula for thirty years.
The food, like the waters here, is inseparable from this place. The most extraordinary tables are those you can only reach by going somewhere most people don’t.
Port to Palate™ is how we share it.
What We're Here For.
We’re trying to know our corner of the world better than anyone.
A school that takes you where you want to go — on boats and in life — with the coast as our classroom. We connect people to the cruising lifestyle through culinary adventures and a curated guide that connects our clients to the food, producers and culture of this extraordinary coast. Education, adventure and coastal culture — all three, always, in everything we do.
We are boutique by design to maintain our personal touch — and regional by intention, because the depth of what we offer comes from knowing this coast intimately. Through our partner network spanning Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, the Sunshine Coast and beyond, we go wherever our clients want to go without ever losing the quality and care that defines everything we do.
We don’t just teach skills. We build skippers and design the experiences that shape them.
