educational adventures faq

Please reach us at info@thevoyagemakers.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Nanaimo Yacht Charters & Sailing School is our Adventure partner. Take a look at their fleet for all your options. Feel free to contact us or them at any time for availability and any questions.

Every Adventure is an education. Whether you’re hoping to advance your skills in difficult waters, gain sea-miles for your resume or simply want to experience B.C. with friends and family – you will join the regions most experienced instructors who focus on you, your goals & creating an unforgettable experience.

That's up to you! Join as a bareboat charter with friends and family on a boat of your choosing or sign-up as an individual or small group and make new friends aboard. If your group would like their own vessel and require an instructor on-board, no problem.

YES! Every Educational Adventure includes Introduction to Cruising certification. Options to add formal Competent Crew and Coastal Navigation certification is available upon request.

May I train with my friends and family who have limited experience? Each Adventure is designed to ensure that people at all experience levels succeed - making them perfect for anyone who wants to enjoy a learning vacation that builds everyone’s confidence and skills.

How much experience do I need? Whether you’re a newbie or old pro – you’ll learn techniques and skills you’ll appreciate wherever your next Adventure takes you. Every Adventure is designed to teach you at your own pace so you can practice old and new skills and gain greater mastery of coastal navigation, tides, currents and weather systems. We encourage everyone to take a course focused on skill building prior to joining an Adventure so that you can concentrate on skill refinement. But if you don’t have the time, don’t worry. We've got you!

Local purveyors & provisions. Every Adventure includes a locally sourced provision box, tastings & dining. Stops at locally celebrated shops & markets happen throughout your Adventure. And each Adventure includes a group dining experience to ensure that you experience the flavors that make B.C. the Best Coast!

The vessels are all fully appointed with bedding, linens & galley equipment.

We recommend packing:

  • Clothes and personal items (don't forget your medications and sunscreen)
  • Wet weather gear. Layers (we recommend extra socks 😊)
  • An extra large beach towel if you plan to go swimming.

You can carry your own inflatable PFD on your flight - see your carrier for details.

As your arrival date nears, you will be invited to a group call to meet your fellow adventurers & the team of instructors who will join you.
